This book is the best I have read both of Henty's work and of Scotland under the Hammer. Think Kipling's book Kim, set in Scotland, where Kim winds up a mighty warrior and then a wealthy lord. Be sure to read Henty's work next to a computer where you can pop up maps of the various unfamiliar locals of the story/5(43).

"In Freedom's Cause" far more accurately portrays the history of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. What caused Robert the I actually quite enjoyed this book. I was torn between 3 vs 4 stars which came from the fact that I felt like Henty couldn't decide whether to write a 4/5.
